Parker & Sons Excited About Recently Allocated Conservation Funding

It was recently announced that Arizona will be receiving $26 million in conservation funding as part of a distribution of $1.1 billion which was generated by the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Acts. The announcement was made by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. Parker & Sons, a Phoenix institution since 1974, is overwhelmingly excited about the good that will be achieved with this massive influx of conservation spending.

Long recognized as an outdoorsman’s paradise, Arizona is well renowned for its natural beauty, ecological diversity, and its nearly unmatched recreational possibilities.  From the rise of the Mogollon Rim to the Grand Canyon, to surreal, sparse beauty of the Sonoran Desert, Arizona’s natural landscape is truly one of a kind. Preserving these special places is a priority many Arizona citizens.

The $1.1 billion of conservation funds are being split among four states, Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. Texas ($52,684,507) is marked to receive the largest portion of the funding follow by Arizona ($25,896,359), Oklahoma ($23,945,446) and New Mexico ($20,830,305).

The funding is intended to support conservation efforts while improving and enhancing existing outdoor recreation facilities. Conservation projects will include the maintenance of wildlife habitats, the support of declining sport fishing species, wildlife population surveys, wildlife research, and public education.

Pitman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration and Dingell-Johnson Sports Fish Restoration Acts were funded by taxes placed on fishing, hunting, and shooting gear as well as through fuel taxes. The idea behind the funding structure is that those individuals who most utilize the outdoor spaces would be those best suited to fund its support.

Parker & Sons has long been home to outdoor enthusiast. When the people of Parker & Sons are not working hard helping out the residents of Phoenix, they can often be found enjoying Arizona’s vast selection of beautiful state parks. Any funding with goes towards preserving these pristine areas and protecting the fish and wildlife that reside in them is greatly appreciated.
