Parker & Sons Considers the Massive Price of Heating in Wisconsin
Phoenix, AZ, December 11, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Parker & Sons comments that the cost of heating in Wisconsin seems steep, but it likely beats freezing to death.
The renovation project at the University of Wisconsin has taken many twists and turns since its inception during the fall of 2010. At the time, the scope of the heating upgrade was to convert the university’s existing coal-powered heating system into a natural gas and biomass plant. The budget for the original project scope was approximately $250 million. Unfortunately, as the state’s budget began to tighten in 2011, cuts had to be made. The biomass plant section of the upgrade was eliminated from the project scope. Parker & Sons comments that even without the biomass plant, heating in Wisconsin is still of vital importance.

Faramarz Vakili, who works as the director for the physical plant department for operations, maintenance, and utilities, and is the director for sustainability operations, noted that an upgrade to the university’s current coal-fired steam plant, although expensive, could end up saving the university massive amounts of money in the long run. In fact, projected annual savings were placed upwards of $1.5 million. Vakili said, "The initial reasons (to move forward with the project) were to update old equipment and provide additional capacity to meet the demands of the campus."

Even in cities like Phoenix with relatively mild climates, winters can become extremely uncomfortable.
