Orlando Orthodontist, Dr. Lach Hosts Family Fun Night on May 24th For Smiles For Hope Recipients
Online, May 23, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The journey began in 1987 at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, as Dr. David R. Lach began to help underprivileged children in Mexico to have healthier, more beautiful smiles through his establishment of the UNC Mexico Project. Although he was just a first-year student back then, the project has helped several hundred orphans and continues to help needy children today with the help of over 200 volunteer UNC dental students who continue to carry the same tradition of serving those in need.
Decades later, Dr. Lach still continues to help those in need locally with the same passion. His goal is to help underprivileged children who live in the local communities of the Orlando, Florida area. In 2010, Dr. Lach created the Smiles for Hope Foundation. The non-profit foundation serves the community by giving ten Central Florida children based on their family's need, completely complimentary orthodontic treatment, braces, and dental services, with a fun creative twist.
"We wanted to do something special for kids in our own community who would not otherwise have an opportunity for a better smile," says Dr. Lach, who has helped provide beautiful smiles and healthier teeth to nearly 20,000 families during his 22 years in the Central Florida area. "Getting braces and a chance at a great smile are generally thought to be only for kids from affluent families. We decided to change that for the kids who are selected for our Smiles for Hope Foundation."
Every two to three months when it's time for the Smiles for Hope children's next appointment, Dr. Lach hosts a "Family Fun Night". It is designed to be a fun, community party and a celebration of the day that they come to our office for routine adjustment appointments," explained Dr. Lach.
Highly anticipated, the next "Family Fun Night" is taking place on May 24th and is hosted at the Fun Spot FFN in Orlando. According to Lach-Ortho.com, admission is free with a $10 tax deductible donation to the Smiles for Hope Foundation. Attendees are also reminded to bring a canned food that will be donated to local families in need.
Previous "Family Fun Nights" were a huge success with VIP red-carpet treatment for the children and a ride in 16-passenger stretch Hummer limousine. The events take place at various locations each quarter throughout Central Florida, ranging from a parking lot carnival to skating rinks and trampoline arenas.
"We're trying to make a difference for underprivileged children in a unique, creative, and fun way and we want to make visits to our office and Family Fun Nights something special and take their minds off the difficulties that they may currently be facing," said Dr. Lach. "It's been very inspiring. I feel like we're helping these kids feel better about themselves, which gives them a boost of self-esteem and confidence during a difficult time in their lives."
According to Dr. Lach, so many people and businesses have come together offering their donations, facilities, and help in so many ways. He hopes is that this program will inspire others and invites them to participate in the community.
"We're always looking for business owners who can offer services to those in need and help make our community a better place," added Dr. Lach.
