Oakbrook Terrace Dentist Promotes Oral Cancer Awareness Month

Oakbrook Terrace dentist is raising awareness of oral cancer by promoting Oral Cancer Awareness Month.

Dr. A. Garrett Berley, Dr. Krupa Patel and team are raising awareness of oral cancer by promoting Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Our Oakbrook Terrace dental office encourages the community to receive oral cancer screenings at least once per year.

In order to increase your odds against oral cancer, preventive measures can be taken, including:

  • Brushing and flossing on a daily basis
  • Visit our office at least twice per year for oral healthcare and exams
  • Do not smoke or chew tobacco
  • Limit your exposure to the sun
  • Maintain a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables

Statistics show that one person dies every hour from oral cancer and 43,250 Americans will be diagnosed this year.

However, early detection of pre-cancerous cells can be identified and effectively removed.  Dr. Berley can detect abnormalities such as tissue changes in the mouth during your dental examination. It is important to have any sore or discolored areas of your mouth that do not heal within 14 days looked at by a professional. Oral cancer may be detected during its early stages. Other symptoms include: a lump of mass in the inside of the mouth or neck, pain or difficulty swallowing, speaking or chewing, or any wart like masses.

Dr. Berley, with his meticulous attention to detail, is able to detect the symptoms of oral cancer at the earliest stages. If symptoms are found, he may refer you to a specialist for a biopsy.

Dr. Berley emphasizes the importance of oral cancer screenings at his Oakbrook Terrace dental office. Oral cancer will claim the lives of 8,000 people per year. Our team wants only the best for our patients and that is why we are emphasizing the importance of Oral Cancer Awareness Month. We are encouraging patients to receive a complete oral examination.  Don’t be one of them and schedule your oral cancer screening today.
