NWA Cancer Treatment Group Participated in Successful, Annual Screening and Care Conference

Highlands Oncology Group Participated in 3rd Annual Screening and Care Conference Hosted By the Lung Cancer Alliance

Highlands Oncology Group, Northwest Arkansas’ leading cancer treatment group, participated in the successful, third annual Collaborating for Improved Screening and Care Conference hosted by the Lung Cancer Alliance. The conference was from October 6 to October 7 at the Washington Court Hotel in Washington D.C.

Joanna Thompson, director of the Center for Chest Care and the Northwest Arkansas Lung Cancer Screening Program, and Dr. Daniel Bradford, a founding physician of Highlands Oncology Group, were invited to participate in the conference.

The conference brought together healthcare professionals from lung cancer screening and care programs across the country to meet, share lessons learned, troubleshoot problems and identify continued areas of need in lung cancer screening programs, according to the Lung Cancer Alliance. Thompson sat on the event planning committee, for the third consecutive year, and acted as a moderator. Dr. Bradford presented on the “Effective Use of Multi-Disciplinary Clinical Teams in Screening Programs.”

Free lung cancer screenings are available to high-risk individuals in the Northwest Arkansas community. The Northwest Arkansas Lung Cancer Screening Program was the first lung cancer screening program in Arkansas and is certified by the Lung Cancer Alliance.

Lung cancer screenings are important because the earlier the disease is detected, the more treatable it is. Through the Northwest Arkansas Lung Cancer Screening Program, 47, early-stage cases of lung cancer have been diagnosed.

Screenings are particularly advised to those with a history of cancer, a family-history of lung cancer, a long history of smoking and/or to those exposed to occupational or environmental cancer causing substances.

The Lung Cancer Alliance is the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for the disease, according to its website.

The Center for Chest Care is comprised of Highlands Oncology Group, Medical Associates of Northwest Arkansas, Cardiovascular Surgical Associates of NWA and Hope Cancer Resources.

As the leading cancer treatment and research facility in Northwest Arkansas, Highlands Oncology Group is dedicated to the advancement of cancer treatment and to providing patients with the best possible care and results.
