NUVODA Earns Grand Prize for Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science

Nationally recognized society cites NUVODA's innovative MOB Process in award-winning project

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) awarded NUVODA the Grand Prize in the “Excellence in Environmental Engineering & Science Award” competition for the Town of Moorefield/Hardy County Regional WWTP Upgrade with the MOB™ Process project.

“The award-winning projects exemplify today’s best practices in using appropriate technologies and designing, planning and implementing solutions that meet both project and societal needs,” said AAEES in a provided comment.

NUVODA, a provider of advanced solutions for biological process systems in water and wastewater treatment, was recognized for its contribution of the Mobile Organic BioFilm (MOB) Process to the Town of Moorefield/Hardy County Regional wastewater treatment plant upgrade.

The patented MOB process utilizes a highly renewable, naturally occurring lignocellulosic material harvested from the fast-growing kenaf plant (Hibiscus cannabinus) as a substratum for biofilm growth. The adsorptive and high-surface-area kenaf is machined to approximately 500 μm in size, allowing them to act as optimal media for hybridized fixed film and granular sludge growth. The MOB process technology is a highly attractive, sustainable option for water and wastewater treatment facilities in the U.S. and around the world.

AAEES presented the award to Jason Calhoun, NUVODA’s Chief Technology Officer, and Sage Chang, Research and Development Manager, who accepted the award on behalf of NUVODA. The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists is a society of professional engineers and scientists who have demonstrated special expertise in environmental engineering or science beyond that normally required for professional practice, in a process similar to what is required for medical and other professional specialty certifications.
