Nudity Meets Fine Art At Adelaide Fringe: Lola The Vamp
Online, February 15, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Lola The Vamp is one of the world's most revered burlesque dancers, but she's never set foot at the world's largest fringe festival - until now!
With not one, but two shows, Lola is set to take the Adelaide Fringe Festival by storm. The only dancer to have performed burlesque for a PhD, Lola is also one if the notorious Red Burlesque girls - known as the Victoria's Secret Angels of the burlesque world, they are a collection of performers who each lend their names to a Red Burlesque Lipstick.
She debuts her new act Cold Cold Night at Nouveau Erotic, described as an erotic performance art spectacle with burlesque beauties, sensual sirens, slithering snakes and amazing belly dancers. It is inspired by the romantic imagery and erotic undertones of Art Nouveau and is produced by Adelaide native, Flavella Lamour.
Lola's act will feature decadent costuming inspired by the Art Nouveau fascination with curves and circular patterns. True to the era, Lola's famous giant antique paper umbrella - given to her Great Great Great Aunt by Chinese boarders - will make an appearance.
In keeping with the Adelaide vibe this year, Lola will be reading excerpts from her favourite modernist writers at one of the boldest events of this year's Fringe, Naked Girls Reading In The Garden.
Naked Girls Reading, called "appropriately racy" by Entertainment Weekly and "the best thing to happen to books since they were put on tape..." by Carson Daly, was founded in Chicago in March of 2009 by International Showgirl Michelle L'amour and husband Franky Vivid. After the very first event it was obvious to all in attendance that something big had just happened - something spiritual. Immediately, the press took hold and emails began flooding in from cities all over the country from people interested in starting their own franchise. Since 2009, Naked Girls Reading has grown exponentially, with thriving chapters in fourteen U.S. cities, Canada, and now Australia.
It's a Fringe not to be missed - for a number of nakedly obvious reasons.
