Noom Celebrates 1,000th Hire Milestone

Noom, the behavior change company that is disrupting the weight loss industry, announced the hiring of their 1000th full-time employee today, less than 2 years after struggling to find its footing.

Saeju Jeong, CEO and co-founder, credits Noom’s innovative technology with transforming the digital health company; quadrupling revenue from 2016 to 2017, delivering 5x revenue from 2017 to 2018, and January 2019 is trending to be 15x January 2018.

Noom feels like home. I've coached for about 4 different companies and I've never felt so in tune with a company before. I feel as though I am a vital part of Noom's culture, and that my thoughts and opinions are not only valued but utilized in helping our company grow and thrive.

Tracy Madden, Noom Coach

Back in January 2017, Noom had only 77 full-time employees, making the 1000th hire much more than a financial turnaround, Jeong says. “These hires represent years of hard work and steadfast determination.” Adam Fawer, CFO adds. “We never stopped believing in ourselves, our product or our ultimate mission: To help people everywhere live healthier lives through behavior change. And people want to be a part of that.”

Unlike other tech companies that focus on New York or San Francisco, or are taking advantage of the new gig economy, Noom’s health coaches are full time positions with full benefit packages, all across the United States. “Noom is creating jobs in cities and states that are typically overlooked by tech companies. We are hiring a ton of great people, mostly women, who love our mission and love helping people,” said Jeong.

To date, Noom has hired full-time employees in 32 states, including 35-year-old Tracy Madden of Mount Juliet, Tennessee. Madden - a Registered Dietitian with a B.S. in psychology, a Master’s in Public Health Nutrition, and more than 10 years of coaching experience - said she thanks Noom for giving her a job that allows her to hone her coaching skills and be a service to others, all from her own town.

“Noom feels like home,” Madden said. “I’ve coached for about 4 different companies and I’ve never felt so in tune with a company before. I feel as though I am a vital part of Noom’s culture, and that my thoughts and opinions are not only valued but utilized in helping our company grow and thrive. I’m also learning so much. We have clinical supervision twice a week, which has really helped me grow as a coach, and a person. And because there are so many of us, I am learning from the biggest and brightest coaching school there is. I’ve developed such close ties here that Noom truly feels like my home, my colleagues like family - or as we call it, the Noomily.”

While AI will continue to eliminate jobs in certain sectors, Jeong believes there will always be a need for “Human jobs; Jobs that require a real person’s sense of empathy and understanding. And technology will allow them to do this very important, fulfilling work from anywhere and everywhere they choose.”

Noom Ranks as Top Trending Diet in 2018, According to Google

Google conducts a “Year in Search” analysis every year, looking for the “top trending” searches that showed the highest spike in traffic year-over-year. The annual campaign identifies what people around the globe are most curious about in 2018 relative to 2017.

Consumers across the US helped turn Noom into one of the 2018 “top trending diets”, according to Google Trends, based on an aggregation of trillions of search queries. Throughout 2018, Noom’s weight loss program generated national media interest.

In May 2018, People Magazine published a comprehensive review of Noom, saying “if you’re a complete newbie to self-care who needs that extra push to get organized and keep yourself accountable, Noom is the program for you.” Men’s Health also featured Noom in its report of 2018’s best AI devices for weight loss and fitness, highlighting it as “the first program of its kind to be recognized by the CDC for diabetes prevention.” Entrepreneur.com published an in-depth feature on how Jeong and his Noom co-founder, Artem Petakov, took the digital health program to top of Google Play and iTunes.
