Newport's "Wrentham Carriage House" Begins Luxury Sales for the Year

Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty announced the sale of 325B Ocean Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island.

Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty announced the sale of 325B Ocean Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. The property, overlooking the Atlantic, sold for $4,550,000, making it the highest sale in the state for the year thus far.  Chris West, co-owner of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty represented the seller, and Lila Delman Real Estate represented the buyer.  “This is an exceptional property with one-of-a-kind features inside and spectacular ocean views outside,” Ms West noted.

The property is sited on 3.67 acres, a companion to “Wrentham House” along the rocky coastline of Newport’s famed Ocean Drive. The estate was originally designed by Richard Morris Hunt with landscaping by Frederick Law Olmstead.  In 2009 the owners restored and converted the stone carriage house into an awarding-winning contemporary living space while maintaining the historic integrity of the building. Large sliding doors divide the interior’s entertaining and informal spaces. A second-floor retreat, with abundant windows and balcony, contains a spiral staircase to the building’s cupola for a 360-degree view. A master suite with a second balcony, a geo-thermal heating system, outdoor living spaces, and landscaped grounds complete the transformation of this seaside property into a comfortable modern home.

Paul Leys, co-owner/broker of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty remarked, “The sale of this unique property reflects the continuing draw of Rhode Island coastal properties and southern New England lifestyle.”
