New York turns to CHP and the Integration of Cogeneration enables Building Owners to utilize On-Site Power Plants reducing Energy Costs

NY State Program actively supports Clean Energy Combined Heat & Power (CHP), generating Energy On-Site.

2G CENERGY®, Florida-based manufacturer of high-efficiency low emission CHP Cogeneration systems, announced that the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) has recently approved 2G®’s advanced technology for a statewide CHP incentive program.

2G®’s advanced technology simultaneously produces electricity and thermal energy through a unique process, which greatly increases overall energy efficiencies while also reducing emissions. This is not the first time 2G CENERGY® has passed extremely high standards of independent third party laboratories and inspectors. Over the years, various public entities, government authorities and non-profit benefit organizations with the goal of helping consumers increase energy efficiencies, save money, use renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, approved 2G CENERGY® advanced CHP products to be eligible for incentives and public grant programs.

"NYSERDA's program has now made it possible for energy consumers to utilize smart cogeneration technologies without any risk".

Michael Turwitt, President & CEO

The Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Acceleration Program in the State of New York provides incentives for the installation of pre-qualified CHP systems by approved CHP system vendors in the size range 50kW to 1.3MW.

A NYSERDA-commissioned study published by the New York State Energy Research Development Authority found there to be a technical potential for approximately 8,500 MW of new CHP systems in NY State spread across roughly 26,000 sites. Modeling forecasts, in a best case scenario, show an estimated 764 MW of CHP systems are likely to be installed over the next decade; whereas, in the accelerated case scenario (where incentives and other forces stimulate the marketplace), market penetration could reach nearly 2,200 MW during the same time frame.

The same study found that New York currently has approximately 5,000 MW of CHP systems installed at approximately 210 sites throughout the state. These figures indicate an average size of nearly 25 MW, which are relatively large systems.  There are very few candidate sites remaining, which are capable of hosting such a large system.  The study found a significant marketplace for CHP systems, sized at 5 MW or less, with ample opportunities to transform the energy infrastructure upstate as well as downstate NY.

“Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology fueled by natural gas is very attractive to owners of factories, production plants, commercial, institutional and municipal buildings. More and more awareness about the technology, and around the possibility of using CHP, is creating a momentum leading to an increased amount of customers to jump in and embrace the technology. It’s a win for everybody, saving the CHP user a significant amount of money reducing energy costs”, said Michael Turwitt, 2G CENERGY® President & CEO. “NYSERDA’s program has now made it possible for energy consumers to utilize smart cogeneration technologies without any risk”, he added.

2G CENERGY® has established a wide footprint throughout the United States, Canada and Latin America. The 2G® Group manufactured and installed more than 4,000 CHP cogeneration power plants and the company’s experience in this specific market segment is unmatched. 2G CENERGY® provides a wide range of advantages over competitors with its portfolio of technologically advanced 100% modular cogeneration systems.
