New York City's Voices of Women Organizing Project to Receive Free IT Facelift from Ingram Micro's Big Apple Chapter Leaders

New York and New Jersey's Top IT Providers Team to Give IT Facelifts to Non-profit Organizations in Need

Ingram Micro's VentureTech Network (VTN) Big Apple Chapter today announced it will donate and deploy more than $30,000 dollars of IT equipment, labor and services to New York's Voices of Women (VOW) Organizing Project as part of the Chapter's new Big Apple Cares community outreach program. The charitable "IT Makeover" unveiling will take place on location Saturday, March 20th. Local and national press welcomed to attend. Photo opportunities will be made available.

As part of the new Big Apple Cares initiative, the New York New Jersey-based VTN Chapter has teamed with its IT distribution partner Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) and leading IT manufacturer partners 3Com, Lenovo, Microsoft, NComputing, Netgear, SonicWALL, Symantec, V7 and Xerox to provide an IT refresh to local non-profit organizations throughout 2010.

In addition to donating the hardware, software and technical expertise, the Big Apple Cares initiative also provides the winning recipient with three years of IT support services provided by members of the Big Apple VTN Chapter using the Ingram Micro Seismic Managed Services offerings.

"This is no small donation. The new computers, server and software donated through the Big Apple Cares initiative will ensure the continued progress and success of our organizing campaigns to improve New York City's systemic response to battered women and their children," says Raquel Singh, executive director for VOW.

Additionally, the computers and support services donated as part of the new Big Apple Cares initiative will support VOW's leadership training, development and support of survivors of domestic violence, as well as the organization's outreach efforts to increase its membership and diverse representation of NYC's survivor community.

"For our members, the ability to utilize up-to-date computers to further their efforts in stabilizing their lives by finding a home, looking for jobs, or keeping up with their educational coursework, helps them to move further away from violence and is a dream come true," says Singh. "We are sincerely grateful to the Big Apple Chapter and proud to be the first recipient to benefit from the Big Apple Cares initiative."

According to the VTN Big Apple Chapter President Guy Baroan of Baroan Technologies, the Big Apple Cares initiative is the first of its kind and marks the start of what is sure to become one of the most rewarding and heart-felt projects ever undertaken by the Big Apple Chapter.

"Giving back to our community in a meaningful way such as this is a top priority for the Big Apple Chapter," says Baroan. "Helping non-profit and educational organizations like New York's Voices of Women Organizing Project use technology to their advantage and in turn provide a greater service to others is what corporate giving is all about. We're honored to serve our community and want to thank all those who have helped bring the Big Apple Cares initiative to life."

Originated in December 2009 by VTN Big Apple Chapter members Chelsea Technologies, Comtel Global Services, Lincoln Computer Services and Micro Strategies, the Big Apple Cares community outreach program is chartered to help non-profit organizations throughout 2010. VOW is the first recipient of this charitable IT outreach initiative. Other local organizations will be selected throughout the year to receive a free IT makeover.

"Our long range goal is to create a model for giving back to the community that can be easily replicated by the other twelve Ingram Micro VTN Chapters throughout North America," concludes Baroan. "Together, along with our vendor partners and Ingram Micro, we will help non-profits such as VOW use technology to their advantage."

About the Battered Women's Resource Center and Voices of Women Organizing Project (VOW)
The Battered Women's Resource Center's mission is to support and give a voice to survivors of domestic violence so that they can organize to influence, change and improve the many systems battered women and their children rely on for safety, assistance and justice.

The Center's first and only initiative, the Voices of Women Organizing Project (VOW), is made up entirely of members who are domestic violence survivors. Through VOW, survivors organize to create long-term, sustainable improvements in public policy (practices and attitudes) concerning domestic violence. VOW's guiding principal is to empower women who have survived abuse to identify their needs and to actively participate in solving problems that affect them and other battered women. To achieve their goals, VOW members document system failures, testify at hearings, create position papers, meet with local and state officials and develop recommendations for change. VOW is the only organization in New York and among the first in the nation to provide survivors with a pathway for personal growth, mutual support and collective action. http://www.vowbwrc.org/
