New - Evacuation Day Tour To Be Hosted By Fraunces Tavern® Museum November 25

Fraunces Tavern Museum in New York City will conduct a new tour on this coming November 25 -- The Evacuation Day Tour, in honor of the 227th anniversary of the evacuation of British Troops from New York at the end of the Revolutionary War in 1783.

After seven years of war, on November 25, 1783, King George's soldiers in New York City lowered the Union Jack, filed onto their ships and sailed back to England. General George Washington and his troops then entered the liberated city to cheers and triumphant celebration. This November 25 (Evacuation Day), Fraunces Tavern® Museum will conduct a walking tour where the public will follow in the footsteps of General Washington on that amazing day. The Evacuation Day Tour will run from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. The starting location will be revealed to ticket buyers at the time of purchase.

Conducted by licensed New York City Tour Guide, Frederick Cookinham, the tour will trace Washington's steps from his entrance into the City and try to picture Broadway from Chambers Street down to Fraunces Tavern as it looked 227 years ago. Participants will see where the Liberty Boys challenged the Redcoats on their own parade ground and learn about the people of New York and what it was like for them to be caught up in a revolution. 200+ years may not seem like that long ago after all.

Tickets are $20 each ($15 for Fraunces Tavern Museum members) and are required in advance. They may be ordered through the Museum's website: www.frauncestavernmuseum.org. Ticket purchasers will be emailed a confirmation receipt and the starting location of the tour.
