New Emergency App "Gabe The Guardian" Launches, Assisting Smartphone Users

New iPhone and Android App for Personal Safety Available Online

Smartphone users can now have a wingman by their side at all times with Gabe The Guardian, an recently released safety and security app for iPhones and Android-based phones.

The idea of Gabe The Guardian came from founder Michael Monahan, a Cornell University freshman, after he realized the shortage of safety and security apps available. He also noticed both the Apple Apps Store and Google Play store lacked categories specifically for those apps.

"Our phones are always by our sides," Monahan said. "Why not use them to let our closest friends and family know where we are or if we are in trouble? This is a common sense app for something which cannot be taken lightly - our safety."

Gabe the Guardian app has three essential functions:
• Emergency - Allows users to send an emergency message, including timestamp, GPS information and a photo, to a pre-selected list of contacts with the touch of a button.
• Check-In - This gives users the ability to inform friends and family of their whereabouts when in an unfamiliar place or out somewhere alone. It is also a great way to quickly and easily share photos with friends.
• Locate Me - This feature allows users to send a link with their GPS information, allowing friends and family to view the user's location on a map. This feature provides additional flexibility for users who want key people to be informed of the user's location.

"We are harnessing many of the tools already available in smartphones and employing them to be used with the touch of a button in a single app," Monahan said. "Our hope is that Apple and Android take notice and re-categorize their online stores, but also market their phones as safety devices, because the potential of mobile devices is limitless."
