New College Scholarship Focuses on Career Passion
Online, February 25, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Jo-Ann McFearin of Howard Hanna Creates Leadership Scholarship
Jo-Ann McFearin, long time resident, mother of two Twinsburg graduates and top selling realtor in the community wanted to find a way to give back.
"I believe in Twinsburg and our wonderful school system. I wanted to find a way to say thank-you as well as honor my children, of whom I am so proud," said McFearin. Her children, Brad and Amanda Fiedler, both graduated Twinsburg High school. Brad is studying engineering at RIT in Rochester and is also in the Army ROTC. Amanda is studying to be a history teacher at the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
Jo-Ann, a graduate of Cornell University strongly believes that her leadership skills and passion for education and community service were contributing factors for her acceptance to Cornell and her successful career path. By establishing this annual college scholarship, Jo-Ann wants to recognize a student who has demonstrated their leadership abilities and that same passion for learning and giving back to the community. Jo-Ann believes, "Their passion will come across in the required essay that is part of the application."
Students applying for this Leadership Scholarship must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and plan to attend an accredited institute of high learning; college, university or technical school. Applications are available through the Twinsburg High School Guidance office and are due April 12, 2010. The winner will be announced at the Senior Academic Dessert on May 6th.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for one of our seniors to be recognized for their leadership abilities," said Melanie Bushey, Twinsburg High School Guidance Counselor. "We are thrilled Ms. McFearin has established this very generous award that will provide a great benefit toward the expenses of their college education."
