New Cancer Lab Opens In Mississauga
Online, October 2, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Care Imaging Cancer Diagnostics Centre (CARE) in Mississauga is pleased to announce the opening of the first Canadian Cancer Diagnostics Lab, in partnership with Advanced Cancer Theranostics (ACT) from Amherst, NY.
ACT provides cancer patients and their physician with a faster diagnosis and an optimized chemotherapy treatment regimen for maximum efficacy and minimum side effects. The process is rather simple. The doctor sends a biopsy of the cancer to the lab in Mississauga, with the treatment plan (drug or combination of drugs) that he or she feels would have the best odds at effectively killing the tumor. The lab then runs the Chemo-Fit Assay test on the biopsy which can help determine how well the recommended treatment would work on the cancer. Why is this important? "Not everyone responds the same to cancer therapy," explains Dr. Sherry Bradford, founder of ACT and Keynote Speaker at the upcoming Anti-Aging Show. "There are many factors that contribute to why a patient does not respond to treatment and it's our job to make sure that the treating physician is equipped with the most information possible about the drug-sensitivity of the tumor." She went on to explain "Cancer is a deadly disease and in most cases, time is of the essence. What works effectively on one patient will not necessarily work well on another because each person's tumor-sensitivity is different."
