NetSpend Expands Partnership with H-E-B

NetSpend Prepaid Debit Cards and Fee-Free Reload Packs now available at the checkout lane at all 271 H-E-B stores

AUSTIN (December 8, 2009) -- NetSpend, a leading provider of card-based prepaid financial products to underbanked consumers has expanded its relationship and product offering at H-E-B retail stores throughout Texas the company announced today. Piloted earlier this year at 25 stores, the NetSpend prepaid debit card and Fee-Free Reload Pack are now available in the checkout lane at all 271 H-E-B stores. NetSpend is currently the exclusive provider of prepaid products in H-E-B's Business Centers.

The availability of the NetSpend prepaid debit card and Fee-Free Reload Pack at the checkout lane gift card mall is a significant convenience for the customer who can now purchase the products in a single transaction rather than make a separate trip to the Business Center. Additional conveniences of the Fee- Free Reload Pack include the ability to load money onto a card that is not physically present at the transaction-a viable alternative to providing cash or sending a money order or wire transfer-for no additional purchase price. The price for the prepaid debit card is $6.95 and customers are able to load any amount of money from $10 to $500 at the checkout lane; higher load amounts can be handled in the Business Center.

The expanded availability of the NetSpend prepaid debit card and Fee-Free Reload Pack at H-E-B is expected to significantly increase card sales and reload volume in the stores through increased foot traffic and higher visibility.

"We have enjoyed a lengthy and prosperous relationship with H-E-B," said Dan Henry, chief executive officer at NetSpend. "The expansion of our relationship outside of the Business Center, I believe, provides a mutual advantage: higher visibility and greater sales for NetSpend and added convenience for H-E-B customers."

Prepaid debit cards offer a viable financial alternative for the approximately 100 million underbanked consumers in the United States. Designed as a convenient tool to help cardholders better manage their finances, a prepaid debit card allows only the amount that is pre-deposited on the card to be spent. This means that consumers using prepaid debit can avoid paying their share of the more than $38.5 billion in overdraft fees that banks will collect this year. Cardholders also have access to free direct deposit, free anytime text or email alerts and card-to-card transfers.
