Nationally Recognized Neurosurgeon, Philipp M Lippe, M.D., Dies at 91

Dr. Philipp M Lippe

Philipp M Lippe, M.D., 91, born in Vienna, Austria, passed away on Nov. 5, 2020 at his home in San Jose, CA.

Dr. Lippe was a graduate of Loyola University, Illinois, and University of Illinois (College of Medicine).  He served as a Department Chief of Surgery and Flight Surgeon (Capt.) at Walker AFB. He achieved board certification through the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and the American Board of Pain Medicine, and was a Clinical Professor, Department of Neurological Surgery, at Stanford University.

He was a passionate advocate for exceptional patient care in Neurosurgery, as well as the medical community at large.

A nationally recognized Neurosurgeon, and a pioneer in the field of Pain Medicine, he stayed engaged professionally throughout his life, providing guidance and counsel to numerous professional medical organizations, hospitals and colleagues.

Dr. Lippe was a leader in organizational medicine: 30 years as a Delegate in the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Secretary of the California Medical Association, Past-President of California Association Neurological Surgeons, and a Founder and Past-President of American Academy of Pain Medicine.
