My Teacher's Library Continues to Make Classroom Library Management Easier

My Teacher's Library Announces Its Next Wave of Innovative New Features.

Continuing its quest to give teachers control and easier management of their classroom libraries, My Teacher’s Library has released a number of value added features for its cloud library management system.

Users can now upload both their book list and student roster into their library.  This makes it easy for teachers who have been maintaining their book list in a spreadsheet, and those using another system to migrate with minimal effort.  The library will import both binary (xls) and OpenXML (xlsx) versions of Excel® spreadsheets.  Support for additional file types will be forthcoming in a future release.

"Users can now import their existing book and borrower lists directly into My Teacher's Library. Provided their books or borrowers are listed one per row in the file, all they need to do is edit their column names to match our column import identifiers, and the file imports. It's as easy as that", said Don Britten, CEO of My Teacher's Library. "No templates to download, no copying and pasting. Our new Smart Import technology will bring the records in, no matter what order the rows and columns are in. Cataloging a library couldn't be easier. Our process can also augment their book data by providing standardized book metadata, cover art, and additional information that may not have been available in their original source."

“Users can now import their existing book and borrower lists directly into My Teacher’s Library.  Provided their books or borrowers are listed one per row in the file, all they need to do is edit their column names to match our column import identifiers, and the file imports.  It’s as easy as that”, said Don Britten, CEO of My Teacher’s Library.  “No templates to download, no copying and pasting. Our new Smart Import technology will bring the records in, no matter what order the rows and columns are in.  Cataloging a library couldn’t be easier.  Our process can also augment their book data by providing standardized book metadata, cover art, and additional information that may not have been available in their original source.”

In addition to standard data such as title, author, publisher and ISBN, the import will accept subtitle, description, genre and subject.  Additionally, for those who have entered Leveled Reading scores for their books, it will import those as well.  Besides making migration easier than ever, the process adds benefits along the way.

Borrower lists such as student rosters can be imported in a similar fashion.  Borrower name, Id, email address, phone, grade and period are all available as importable information.  An important new feature and addition to this list is the Borrower Group.  A Borrower Group allows teachers to create named groups of borrowers, such as their current school year class roster. This makes it easy to deactivate or delete the entire group at the end of the year, making way for the next year’s roster. “It’s an important step in the process of maintaining an up to date borrower list.  We want to make all these things as easy as possible”, said Britten.

Borrower Groups can be created in the library at any time, or they can be included as part of the borrower list import.  If the group name doesn’t exist in the library, it will be created at the time of import, saving yet another step.

Another valuable feature in this release is the Book Inventory List, providing an alphabetical view of the entire library with title and copy counts.  This can be an invaluable asset for insurance claims in the event of catastrophe such as flood or fire.  Created in PDF format, it can be saved to a file, or printed in whole or part.
