"Motel Kids" Benefactor Knighted By Italian Republic

Bruno Serato Dons Ultimate "Knight-Wear" & Rides In On Horse To Accept Honor

Bringing a whole new meaning to "knightwear," Bruno Serato, owner of the Anaheim White House and benefactor to OC's "motel kids," donned a traditional suit of armor and made a spectacular entry on horseback with costumed footmen in tow to mark what he called, "the most stellar moment of my life": being knighted by the Italian Republic in a ceremony held recently at his restaurant. Consul General Giuseppe Perrone presented The Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana (Order of Merit of the Italian Republic), the highest honor that the Mediterranean nation bestows on an individual, before a crowd of more than 300 guests including Anaheim Ducks players Luca Sbisa and Francois Beauchemin and the USA Mens Volleyball team.

Serato joins an illustrious group of recipients from the worlds of literature, the arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities.

A CNN Hero for his philanthropic work, Serato has served more than 500,000 meals to "motel" children, thus named because their poor, working class parents are relegated to living in low-cost motel rooms. He even mortgaged his home twice in the past 7 years to keep the program running because funds from his restaurant were limited due to the recession. He has since been featured in media all around the world and hopes to inspire others to get involved in the communities in which they live.

"To receive this honor is a dream come true," said Serato. "Not to mention, Sir Bruno definitely has a nice ring to it."

Serato operates the Anaheim White House, which is situated in a historic national landmark mansion dating to 1909. It offers a quixotic Italian Steak House, extensive wine list, unparalleled service and an elegant setting to create a dining experience that is timeless, remarkable and without equal. The restaurant is located at 887 South Anaheim Blvd. in Anaheim. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling (714) 772-1381. For more information visit www.anaheimwhitehouse.com.
