Moscow's Paveletskaya Plaza Wins MIPIM AR Future Award

Today, the MIPIM AR Future Project Awards has announced Moscow’s Paveletskaya Plaza, designed by Hollywood, California-based 5+design, as its winner of the Shopping Centers Category for 2020.

The MIPIM Architectural Review Future Projects Awards is an awards program for projects under construction or as-yet-unbuilt, spanning across eight categories. It is organized and awarded annually by MIPIM (Le marché international des professionnels de l’immobilier), the international property market in Cannes, France, in cooperation with the London-based, monthly international magazine Architectural Review

Since its inception in 2002, the awards have become one of the most influential programs at MIPIM. Each entry is carefully weighed in accordance with the AR Future Projects standards by a team of dedicated judges from across the architecture and construction community with the key goal of finding how each project contributes to its immediate location.

Located adjacent to the primary entrance facade of the historic Moscow Paveletsky Railway Station, Paveletskaya Plaza is a project informed by its context. Following strict municipal guidelines enacted to protect views to the railway station, Paveletskaya Plaza functions as part urban park and part retail center, codifying its historic and modern surroundings into a richly unified, multi-purposed environment.

The new design reestablishes a lost connection between the historic railway station and Moscow’s Garden Ring Road, through the creation of a new plaza and a two-level shopping center below-grade. The center’s expansive, glass-enclosed entrances peak slightly above the ground plane - maintaining a constant dialogue between the retail, the open park and plaza, and the adjacent historic station.

Across multiple levels, Paveletskaya Plaza’s retail, lush landscape, programmable plazas, and event terraces will work together to provide a wide range of offerings and enhance the experience of the area’s many travelers, commuters, and expected visitors.
