Mobster To Minister Movie To Be Filmed in Mansfield And Cleveland, Ohio
Online, August 16, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Travis Mendel, an international filmmaker whose German film COPPELIUS was shown at the Cannes Film Festival, has turned his attention to the story of Thom Miller, a former prisoner once housed in the Death Row area at Man.C.I.. Miller, who served prison sentences for 52 felony indictments, became a Minister after his release. His International Ministry office is located in Mansfield, OH. The script for the story will be written by Rebekah Score who is visiting Mansfield next week.
Rebekah Score received a writing fellowship for her first feature film script; Rebekah has gone on to write and produce two plays and four short films, garnering multiple award nominations and a Redemptive Storyteller Award. Backing off from producing in order to focus more on writing, this year Rebekah saw two more short scripts produced and screened, including her very first foreign language film (written in English but translated into Arabic). It was on that project that she met producer Travis Mendel. With numerous feature film scripts at various stages of development, Rebekah also recently completed her first novel. She sees Thom Miller's life as a treasure trove of stories with the potential to entertain, challenge, and inspire a broad audience. She looks forward to the challenge of weaving a narrative that will be as bold and fascinating as Thom Miller is himself.
Crime, Mafia, drugs and violence were Miller's life. While serving his last prison sentence he stole a Gideon's Bible and read it. Released to Mansfield in 1999 he went into business and is now in full time Ministry around the world. Pastor Miller wants Mansfield to be part of the movie.
Pastor Miller and Rebekah Score will both fly into Ohio on August 17 and will conduct interviews and site visits throughout Mansfield and Cleveland. Their schedule will include at least one trip to the Ohio State Reformatory to consider filming part of the movie there. Miller was once housed at the former Ohio State Prison in Columbus, and OSR has the same architecture.
