Mitzvot, Film About New York Orthodox Jewish Community, Screens in Kuwait Film Festival
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait, November 5, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Mitzvot, a feature experimental documentary directed by Kuwaiti-born New York artist Bader AlAwadhi, screened closing night at Kuwait Film Festival. The film is part of the official feature-length documentary competition at the festival.
Mitzvot is part experimental documentary, part ethnographic film; a study of Hasidic aesthetic in New York. A chronicle of the day leading to Sabbath in three distinct neighborhoods: Borough Park, Crown Heights, and Williamsburg.

Mitzvot screened as the last film on closing night and a Q&A session was held with the director, moderated by Dr. Ali Hassan.
Mitzvot previously screened at DOC LA in 2018, where it won best feature experimental documentary, and New York’s Anthology Film Archives in 2019.
2019 marks the third edition of the state official Kuwait Film Festival which was devoted to documentary cinema. The festival ran from Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, to Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, at the National Library of Kuwait. The festival is produced by the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters under the leadership of Fatma AlHussinan (Director of Kuwait Film Festival and Cinema Supervisor at NCCAL).
Bader AlAwadhi is a Kuwaiti-born New York-based artist. He has an MFA in Film/Video from California Institute of the Arts.
