Wisconsinite Tammy Vanden Heuvel encourages local residents to support Big City Mountaineers' 'Summit For Someone' fundraiser
Tammy Vanden Heuvel of Milwaukee, WI., will join 8 other dedicated outdoor enthusiasts April 22 at the Mt Whitney Summit for Someone climb. Through her climb, Tammy will raise $4,000 for Big City Mountaineers' summer backpacking programs for inner-city teens.
Summit for Someone™ is a fundraising program owned by and to benefit Big City Mountaineers. In its eighth year and continuing to see record success, Summit for Someone is the No. 1 mountaineering fundraiser in the country. Big City Mountaineers (BCM), a 501(c)3 non-profit, that instills critical life skills in under-served urban youth through transformative wilderness expeditions.
The Mt Whitney Summit for Someone climb will start on April 22, 2013. The climbers will reach the summit in three days after having trained for months beforehand. This Mt Whitney climb involves a 10 mile round trip, 6,400 feet of elevation gain and loss, extensive scrambling and Class 3 climbing. There are eight other climbers in the group, led by expert guides from Sierra Mountaineering International.
