Migrants steered into securing successful employment sponsorship

An Australian job search strategist will also encourage migrants to apply for jobs at companies that have no advertised positions - and, as part of the Tailored Australian Job Search Strategy and Australian Job Search Package.

With Australia reducing visa options and moving away from a "Big Australia", more migrants are entering the country through employment sponsorship visas.

Securing a sponsorship visa is the most viable option in light of the federal government's recent decision to give employer sponsorship applicants the highest priority over General Skilled Migration, according to Nab That Job's Director Nadine Myers.

"Overseas nationals need to be even more savvy in their job-seeking strategy upon Prime Minister Julia Gillard's recent announcement that the Labor Party will be breaking away from population growth," Ms Myers said.

"However, emigrants need the edge regardless of who is elected and whether there will be further cuts to immigration quotas after the election. Migrants are simply rarely treated on a par with nationals."

Emigrants have found great success in a notoriously difficult market using tailored Australian job search strategies offered by specialist recruitment agencies.

Nab that Job is also helping to address the issue of poorly formatted resumes through their Australian Job Search Package, a service that aims to "Australianise" resumes, cover letters, Linked In profiles and online resumes, as well as distribute these marketing tools to key Australian companies that match migrants' background and experience.

"Most people expect that their resume from their home country will suffice for applying for jobs in Australia. Unfortunately Australian resumes are organised in a very different way to the UK, Canada, South Africa and Asia," she said.

"I see so many resumes that are too long or short and containing simple errors; and that can kill your chance of even nabbing an interview. Employers receive so many resumes and they simply don't have the time to give feedback to applicants most of the time.

"An Australian job search strategist will also encourage migrants to apply for jobs at companies that have no advertised positions - and, as part of the Tailored Australian Job Search Strategy and Australian Job Search Package, approach companies on their behalf. A third party recommendation has proved to be very powerful.

"These job search services give migrants the edge in finding employment - and they really appreciate the support and guidance of an expert. It's a win, win."
