Michigan Compounding Pharmacy Launches New Drug Take-Back Program for Consumer Drug Disposal

Michigan's Health Dimensions Compounding Pharmacy launches new program to safely take back and dispose of old or unwanted medications.

Recently, the U.S. Wildlife Agency has identified a growing problem of prescription pharmaceutical contamination of ground water and rivers. The cause of this problem is largely due to inappropriate disposal of medications through the trash and/or sewer system.

Health Dimensions wants to help combat this problem.

Beginning April 17th in conjunction with earth week, Health Dimensions has started a safe drug take back program to help patients of any pharmacy safely dispose of medications that may be dangerous to others and to the environment.

Patients of any pharmacy can now safely dispose of unused and expired medications at our pharmacy, free of charge. Simply bring in the drugs in their original stock containers and we will work to return them to their original manufacturer and dispose of those that cannot be returned in an environmentally friendly way.

We welcome you to come and talk to with us about any medications. And remember to never dispose of unused or expired medications by throwing them away or flushing them into the sewer system.

"As members of the community, pharmacists are in a prime position to ensure the safe and proper handling of medications, from dispensing to disposal," said Scott Popyk, owner of Health Dimensions."Unused or expired medications pose risks to our families, communities, and the environment. We welcome all in the community to come and talk to our pharmacists about their prescriptions and how to store, use and dispose of them properly."

Health Dimensions is one of the nation's few accredited compounding pharmacies that is recognized for its expertise and custom prescription formulating capabilities. Accreditation through the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) is the new standard of care in compounding pharmacy. Fewer than 100 facilities are nationally accredited.
