Mental Health Recovery Through Creative Arts; Peer-Led Podcast on the Arts and Mental Health Comes to Mental Health News Radio Network

Hysteria Radio on Mental Health News Radio Network

Hysteria Radio is now part of the Mental Health News Radio Network’s podcast roster. The show joins over 30 mental health and well-being focused MHNR Network podcasts including The Rehab, Narcissist Survivor Radio and Converge Autism Radio.

The show is hosted by six-time published poet, author and speaker Joseph Fusaro, who also works with organizations including the National Association on Mental Illness. Fusaro personally experienced the healing power of songwriting to combat suicidal thoughts and psychosis. This power helped him to stay alive, literally, to seek professional mental health intervention. Alongside therapy and learning to self-care, creative expression has been an ongoing support in his recovery from mental illness.

I think creativity gets us away from the pain for a little while. It eases the stress and pain and in the process, it can help us find parts of ourselves that we may have lost during trauma or while facing adversity.

Joseph Fusaro, Author, poet, speaker and peer advocate

Fusaro’s experience led to Hysteria Radio. Hysteria Radio's goal is to use an intimate audio format to bring hope to listeners. Each episode, Fusaro interviews guests about their use of creative expression to help manage mental health symptoms. Recent guests include Johnny Crowder, lead singer of Prison and creator of Cope Notes, writer, actor and director John Palomino and best-selling author Amy Gamble. Show topics include mental health, self-care, recovery, journaling and creating.

Fusaro said, ”I think creativity gets us away from the pain for a little while. It eases the stress and pain and in the process, it can help us find parts of ourselves that we may have lost during trauma or while facing adversity.”

Hysteria Radio airs fortnightly on the Mental Health News Radio Network. It shares the network’s mission to challenge stigma towards mental health through advocacy, education and dialogue.
