Men Are Now Promoting Prostate Cancer Awareness Through No Shave November
Las Vegas, NV, November 5, 2014 (Newswire.com) - As October is known as breast cancer awareness month, November is recognized as prostate cancer awareness month. Because prostate cancer awareness month doesn’t receive as much publicity as others, the American Cancer Society wants to attribute it to the popular trend known as No Shave November.
The idea stems from cancer patients who typically lose their hair from chemotherapy treatment. Men refusing to shave their facial hair during the month of November will raise awareness to those who have lost their lives or are currently suffering from prostate cancer.
To further promote No Shave November in accordance with prostate cancer awareness month, the American Cancer Society created the website www.no-shave.org. Men are encouraged to sign up and create a fundraising goal. Anytime someone asks about their new facial hair, they are supposed to inform them that it is to bring awareness to the disease and ask them to make a donation.
This combination of No Shave November with prostate cancer awareness began back in 2009. It has become increasingly popular over the last five years.
The American Cancer Society hopes that it will reach the level of popularity that the Ice Bucket Challenge did over the summer.
Men are speaking out stating that it’s good this disease is finally getting the same level of attention as breast cancer. It may not kill as many people a year, but it is still a fatal and incurable disease that deserves awareness.
