MEDICARE SHOULD RECOVER BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SPENT ON MEDICAL TREATMENTS OF PATIENTS WHO ARE VICTIMS OF CRIMINAL ACTS. (A case history costing Medicare $1.3 M. is hereby reported)
Online, May 5, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 and older. As such it is paying the medical expenses of these people, regardless if they are due to diseases associated to aging itself or due to a vast array of criminal acts ranging from physical or psychological abuses of elderly or due to financial schemes resulting sometimes in total loss of their life savings. In all these cases the factor stress plays a dominant role, as it is well documented that severe stress can lead to diseases covering the whole gamut of medicine today. These diseases are known as Post Traumatic Stress Disease (PTSD).
What is strange is that Medicare pays for the treatment of these diseases, while the perpetrators or originators of these diseases, are often free and enjoying life, after being punished by a gentle slap on the wrist or jail terms reduced for "good behavior", while the Medicare and the tax payers, are left holding the bag.
What I am proposing is that Medicare borrows a page from other governmental agencies, where the perpetrators of criminal acts, including drug dealers, financial swindlers and others, have their assets confiscated and sold, in order to recover at least part of the expenses paid. Legislation to this effect can be developed by Medicare in a relatively short time.
How much money did Medicare spend on victims of criminal acts? I do not even guess, what I know is one such case (see attached case history) Medicare paid $1.3 M.
How many cases of such million $ patients are there or how many thousand of patients less than $ one million are there? My guess is that Medicare spent billions of dollars on them, and I believe that Medicare should do whatever it takes to recover at least part of the money spent on them.
That brings us to the matter on how to identify these (PTSD) patients? Probably there would be many answers and by the present, I an proposing mine namely I have submitted recently a Provisional Application for Patent, to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, titled Method of Identifying a Patient with Post Traumatic Stress Disease (PTSD) before or after receiving medical treatment paid for by Medicare.
I have to mention that among patents received so far by me, there are two dealing with the treatment of Alzheimer's and one for the treatment of geriatric depression.
