Maryland Men and Women Win NCAA Lacrosse Championships on FieldTurf
Foxborough, MA, May 31, 2017 (Newswire.com) - The University of Maryland men’s and women’s lacrosse teams won NCAA national titles on the final weekend in May — the first time both Terps’ lacrosse teams have done so in the same year. The women wrapped up an undefeated season by beating Boston College, 16-13, while the men ended a 42-year championship drought with a 9-6 win over Ohio State.
Both title games were played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., which recently installed a new surface featuring FieldTurf’s most advanced monofilament technology. FieldTurf has been the surface of choice at Gillette Stadium, home of the reigning Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots and Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution, since transitioning from grass in 2006.
"I couldn't be happier to see the Terrapins win, and the fact that it was on a FieldTurf surface is surreal! What more could I ask for? Go Terps!"
Neil O'Donnell, Maryland alum, former NFL quarterback and FieldTurf sales representative
FieldTurf is also the surface of choice for the Maryland men’s lacrosse team, which plays its home games at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium, where FieldTurf was installed in 2012.
Gillette Stadium is the first NFL venue to feature the company’s revolutionary new premium system, featuring the industry’s highest-performing monofilament fiber, which makes the surface player-friendly, resilient and durable. Along with the most innovative fiber technology in the industry, this state-of-the-art system features FieldTurf’s proprietary heavy infill system, which is critical to performance and playability.
Maryland alum, former NFL quarterback and FieldTurf sales representative Neil O’Donnell — was thrilled to see his alma mater win both titles.
