Martin Lawrence Galleries Invites New York and San Francisco to Experience the Abstract Expressions in Acrylic of Robert Standish
NEW YORK, April 17, 2023 (Newswire.com) - The Nation's Preeminent Fine Art Gallery Network, Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG), with eight locations across the nation, is proud to announce two live, bi-coastal Spring Gallery Openings, featuring new paintings by acclaimed Abstract Artist Robert Standish. The first will be at its Soho Gallery, 457 West Broadway, NYC, on May 12, and the second at its San Francisco Gallery, 366 Geary St, on June 3.
Robert Standish is an American painter living and working in Los Angeles whose distinctive organic abstract paintings reveal wondrous and uplifting emotive effects in bright color, with bold gestures, and deep textures. A renowned former photorealist painter, Standish became inspired by the spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism, the transcendence of Abstract Spiritualism, and the nuances and power of pure color in Color Field painting - he has focused solely on abstraction since.
In addition to Martin Lawrence Galleries, Standish's works can be found in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, JP MORGAN CHASE, the Weisman Foundation, Lancaster Museum of Art and History, Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Crocker Art Museum, Louis K. Meisel, Larry and Marilyn Fields, Patricia Arquette, Norwest Venture Partners, and BRYANT/ STIBEL, along with numerous other acclaimed collections.
"Fourteen years ago, a feeling overwhelmed me to paint differently, away from the ego-driven and unspontaneous style of my photorealism paintings, leading me to embrace abstraction," noted Standish. "My abstract paintings are motivated by and focused on energetically uplifting, spontaneous and transcendent compositions, featuring random rhythmic color bursts, abundant paint, and most importantly, a request for Divine guidance.
In these new works, I've continued to approach the canvas and process with the enjoyment that comes from seeing what will unfold in each moment. My recent choice to more boldly experiment with wet layers of paint over dry was inspired by a desire to improve certain compositions overall, as opposed to just a specific area. In essence, some of the paintings became reloads.
I appreciated the results and those works began to influence the making of additional works and eventually, this experimental technique became part of the Rhythmic Series process."
