Mark Twain Revisited with Parker Drew Coming to Apple Holler

April 21, 2010 will mark the centennial of the death of an iconic author and speaker; Mark Twain. To honor the event and the man behind it, Apple Holler's Red Barn Theatre is proud to bring to its stage, Mark Twain Revisited with Parker Drew, for

As a young man, Sam Clemens pursued many occupations, but it was when he began writing short stories under the pen name of Mark Twain that the country began to take notice. So, on the advice of a friend, Mark Twain joined the lucrative lecture circuit, developing a unique style of delivery that audiences of that day had never seen before. (We know it today as "stand-up" comedy.) Twain was an immediate sensation, and performed to packed houses around the world. It is fair to say that Mark Twain invented stand-up comedy as we know it today.

Bringing to life the brilliant humor and sage wisdom of Samuel Clemens, in a re-creation of Mark Twain's persona, is Wisconsin's own Parker Drew. A seasoned stage and screen performer, Parker became a familiar face to Wisconsin viewers through his fifteen year association with the Wisconsin Lottery Network, co-hosting the weekly Wisconsin Lottery Money Game. If not his face, certainly his voice is recognized by many as the host of the weekday afternoon drive, from 2003 to 2007, on Milwaukee's legendary WOKY-AM, featuring the popular Ultimate Lounge.

In addition to these many accomplishments, Parker has been delighting audiences across the United States for the past thirty years, with this one-man tour-de-force which brings the brilliant humor and sage wisdom of Samuel Clemens to life in a re-creation of Mark Twain's persona as the most sought after speaker of his day. Each performance of Mark Twain Revisited is unique, as Parker Drew chooses each performance program from over four hours of material. Partially scripted and partially improvised (as Twain's own lectures were structured), no two shows are exactly alike.

"When Parker first presented the idea of performing Mark Twain Revisited at Apple Holler, he immediately got our attention," said Apple Holler's Entertainment Director, Heather Clayton. "Our first thought was that the nostalgia of Mark Twain would be a natural fit to the Apple Holler atmosphere. In addition, we felt the very nature of the show; it having such a personal and interactive element would play wonderfully in our intimate dinner theatre environment."

Apple Holler's special presentation of Mark Twain Revisited with Parker Drew is offered as dinner or luncheon theatre, during select dates and times beginning April 26th through May 15, 2010. The price of $49.95 per person includes: Wisconsin wine and cheese tasting, full-course themed meal, beverage, dessert, tax, tip, and the performance. All performances are by reservation only.
