Mandatory "Green" Light Bulb Toxic Waste Resolution

New Guide Demystifies Light Bulb Disposal of Eco-Friendly Bulbs

Mandatory “eco-friendly” light bulbs are creating an increasing pollution problem in landfills across the U.S., as a lack of recycling options leaves millions of new bulbs without an end-of-life use. But lead electronics recycling companies like All Green Recycling are out to change this.

In 2012, the United States passed a law for increased energy efficiency in light bulbs, resulting from the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA). Starting in 2014, inefficient light bulb varieties have been completely replaced by other, high-efficiency options such as Halogen, CFL, and LED replacements. But despite being significantly more energy efficient - up to 80% less energy used than traditional incandescent bulbs - these savings come at a cost to the environment.

“Green” light bulb alternatives contain mercury - a metal that is harmful to the human nervous system. And with over 2.5 billion light bulbs sold worldwide each year that end up as toxic waste in landfill, the question of how to safely and sustainably dispose of these light bulbs is becoming a pressing issue for environmental and community health.

In December 2016, a new, comprehensive resource for the safe disposal of light bulbs called: “How to Dispose of Light Bulbs: The Ultimate Guide,” was published by All Green Recycling - a leader in electronic waste (e-waste) recycling - addressing this exact question.

“Light bulb recycling is fast becoming a pressing issue for the health of our environment,” says Arman Sadeghi, CEO of All Green Recycling. “We [All Green] want to ensure that people know how to make a positive difference.”

The guide contains up-to-date information on disposal and recycling options for many of today's common light bulb options such as CFL, fluorescent, halogen, HID, LED, and more.
