Lyndon State College Offers New Certification Exams for Professionals and Students
LYNDON CENTER, Vt., May 25, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Lyndon State College’s Center for Professional Studies (CPS) has signed an agreement with Pearson VUE, the computer-based testing (CBT) business of Pearson, to test candidates pursuing key industry certifications from leading programs. Exam options span professional licensure and certification exams such as Certified Healthcare Technology Specialist (CHTS), National Strength and Conditioning Association, and NorthEastern Joint Apprenticeship & Training (NEAT), as well as information technology exams like Cisco, CompTIA, EMC, HP, LPI, Oracle and VMware.
Pearson VUE’s advanced system administers exams on behalf of hundreds of businesses, boards and organizations around the globe through the world's largest, most secure test center network. The system enables candidates to register and reschedule their tests online or through a Pearson VUE call center.
The addition of this newest testing center to the Lyndon campus expands upon the Certiport testing center opened there last spring. It is the tangible result of the long-term partnership between Lyndon State College and Northeast Kingdom Learning Services (NEKLS), which hosted the PV center for the past three years. These education organizations cooperate to provide needed educational resources in the region and cooperate to transition students from secondary education to their chosen career pathway. The strategic decision was made early this year to root the professional exams at Lyndon State College in its new Center for Professional Studies. NEKLS will continue to focus on providing quality high school completion education and testing while hosting GED testing in its mobile testing lab.
The CPS offers non-degree education such as certificate, diploma and licensure programs through classes on campus and on site with area employers as well as online platforms.
Joining the network of Pearson VUE exam centers worldwide increases the capacity of the CPS to build workforce development programs, act as a community resource, and link people to internationally recognized certifications that provide portable credentials. The exams are available for people who take classes through the CPS or other course providers.
“Earning certification increases the competitiveness of job applicants and can push people up the wage scale and career ladder,” CPS director Ann Nygard says. “It also lowers the risk for employers when hiring, as it validates the skill levels of potential employees.”
The Pearson VUE tests also help Lyndon students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree and industry-recognized credentials simultaneously.
Last fall, the CPS became Vermont’s first authorized test site for Certiport, a Pearson VUE subsidiary that offers exams for Microsoft, Adobe, Intuit, Autodesk and other IT-related products. In the fall, the CPS will add Certiport tests in Word, PowerPoint and Access to enable certification in the entire Microsoft Office suite.
Microsoft and Intuit exams have been incorporated into two undergraduate Lyndon business courses. About 60 students took the exams this spring.
