Lung Cancer Foundation of America Partners to Fill in Funding Gap for Critical Research

$400,000 in private grants aim to support progress in developing new treatments for the deadliest form of cancer— lung cancer.

Lung Cancer Foundation of America (LCFA) and International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) have joined forces to fund $400,000 in lung cancer research grants to support two young investigators.

A request for applications is available on LCFA’s website (http://www.lcfamerica.org) now through June 30. Researchers can submit their applications for review and two will be chosen to receive the LCFA/IASLC Lori Monroe Scholarship in Translational Lung Cancer Research to be paid over two years.

"This kind of private donor funding is currently the lifeline for researchers seeking more effective treatments for lung cancer, even though it's the number one cancer killer in America."

Kim Norris, LCFA President and Co-Founder

“This kind of private donor funding is currently the lifeline for researchers seeking more effective treatments for lung cancer, even though it’s the number one cancer killer in America,” said LCFA President and Co-Founder Kim Norris. “We are committed to helping pioneering researchers do the work needed to help give lung cancer patients greater hope for prolonged lives.”

“The LCFA/IASLC grant I received really kept my lab going for a two year period and we were able to get a lot of preliminary data, so it was really important,” said Jessica Donington, M.D. who received a grant for her work at NYU Langone Medical Center.

About LCFA

The Lung Cancer Foundation of America (LCFA) was established by two lung cancer survivors and a lung cancer widow who discovered the poor survival rate for lung cancer is a direct result of the lack of funding for lung cancer research. LCFA’s mission is the dramatic improvement in survivorship of lung cancer patients through the funding of transformative science, with the ultimate goal of curing the disease.
