Loverly Cottage will be celebrating their one year anniversary on Nov. 25, 2017, Small Business Saturday. The Celebration will kick off at 10 am on Nov. 25, with a special Anniversary Sale. There will be a complimentary hot chocolate bar, treats and guests will receive a free gift with purchase.

The building located at 5 North Skokie Highway was locally known for over 50 years as an Irish pub called McCormick’s. After McCormick’s closed, the building changed hands every couple of years with different restaurants until Juliet Abeille, owner of L’abeille Vintage, took over the building and transformed the former roadhouse into the charming Loverly Cottage.

It was a first year filled with highs and lows. We started strong with the building renovations on the inside completely transforming the look of the interior. People are so pleased with all the work that has been done. I love to see the look of disbelief on their faces that this used to be a bar.

Juliet Abeille, President, Loverly Cottage

“It was a first year filled with highs and lows,“ states Abeille. “We started strong with the building renovations on the inside, completely transforming the look of the interior. People are so pleased with all the work that has been done. I love to see the look of disbelief on their faces that this used to be a bar.” She continues, “However, the flooding that affected the area in July, flooded the basement with over 4 feet of water. It destroyed all of the inventory and back stock we stored in the basement. It was quite a blow to the progress we had made, but we are back on track and ready to celebrate with our fabulous customers and community.”

The goal of Juliet Abeille, owner of Loverly Cottage, was to “create a gathering place where the community feels welcome to shop local, learn, create and gather with love.” DIY or Do It Yourself workshops will be hosted weekly through the holiday season to provide patrons with the opportunity to learn how to create home décor and gift items. Different types of DIY workshops are available throughout the year and range from painting, stenciling and more. The variety of DIY Workshops will change with the seasons and holidays.

Loverly Cottage is conveniently located in Lake Bluff off 176, just one block east of Target, and features French Cottage-inspired home goods and gifts. They also specialize in painting vintage furniture. Customers can choose from an on-site warehouse, an off-site warehouse or bring in pieces from their own home to be given new life with a fresh coat of paint. In the back of the building, the former beer garden has been converted into a natural habitat butterfly and pollinator garden, with a deck and patio, where guests can shop for outdoor décor and garden items, enjoy live music at special events or participate in the outdoor DIY workshops.
