Longtime Education Advocates Shawn Joseph and Scott Morgan Join BookNook Advisory Board

Shawn Joseph

BookNook today announced two new additions to its Advisory Board, Dr. Shawn Joseph and Scott Morgan.

Joseph is an experienced school district administrator who most recently served as the first African-American leader of the Metro Nashville School District. He has also held deputy superintendent roles at Prince George's County Public Schools and Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, taught as an adjunct at George Washington University and published a book called “The Principal's Guide to the First 100 Days of the School Year.” He lives in the Nashville, Tennessee area.

As a longtime advocate for student equity, Mr. Joseph is eager to join BookNook’s board.

“I have spent my whole career focusing on literacy as the bedrock of student learning,” Joseph said. “I am excited to be working with a company that is innovating in this space in a way that supports and respects both educators and students.”

Morgan was the founding CEO of Education Pioneers, a national nonprofit that brings leaders and their skills into education. Prior to founding Education Pioneers, he served as legal counsel to Aspire Public Schools and currently leads talent for Wonderschool, an education technology startup that provides software tools to in-home childcare and preschool programs. He lives in Alameda, California.

“I’m very excited to work with the BookNook team to continue closing the opportunity gap for students,” he said. “I love how BookNook helps unlock the potential of anyone to be a great teacher of reading, whether an educator, a paraprofessional, a volunteer, a parent--or even another student.”
