Long Island Elder Law Firm Genser Dubow Genser & Cona Sponsors Caretaker of the Year Contest
Online, February 4, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Genser Dubow Genser & Cona, a leading elder law and estate planning firm in Melville, LI, is sponsoring a "Caregiver of the Year" essay contest to honor a special person who has gone above and beyond the call of duty caring for a senior. The winner will be awarded a $200 gift card and receive a certificate at GDGC's annual Caregiver Strategies Conference on April 20th.
Participants are asked to submit an essay (approximately 500-750 words) and may either nominate themselves or someone who they feel is deserving of this honor. The essay should describe the needs of the senior and give specific examples of the extraordinary things the caregiver has done to help an elderly loved one.
All essay entries are due by March 21, 2010. Entries may be submitted via e-mail to elder@genserlaw.com or may be mailed to: Genser Dubow Genser & Cona, 445 Broad Hollow Road, Suite 19, Melville, NY 11747. Submissions should include: your name and telephone number, and name of proposed Caregiver of the Year, and their address, phone number and e-mail address. A Nomination Form can be found at www.genserlaw.com.
"Because we understand the stress and strain caregivers experience and appreciate how much they give of themselves, we wish to honor someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty caring for an elder by naming that person "'Caregiver of the Year'", says Jennifer Cona, managing partner, GDGC. "Many caregivers go so far as to put their own lives on hold to perform the difficult and time consuming tasks of caring for a loved one. From being on call everyday, to moving in with an elderly parent to visiting a loved one daily in a nursing home, we've seen caregivers give so much, often for very little in return. We want caregivers to know that their selfless dedication is appreciated."
In recognition of the great challenges faced by those caring for their elderly loved ones, President Obama is proposing a $ 102.5 million Caregiver initiative for various programs that will help ease the burden of caregivers and seniors. According to a 2009 NYS Office of Aging study, 79% of the population is providing care to an older family member or friend and most caregivers are women.
