Local Oncologist Releases New Research at Conference in Europe
Fayetteville, AR, November 25, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck, M.D., F.A.C.P. of Highlands Oncology Group (HOG), coauthored research that will be presented the 11th Annual International Congress of the Society for Melanoma Research, held in Zurich, Switzerland.
Dr. Beck coauthored an abstract entitled “Biomarker results from a phase 2 study of MEK1/2 inhibitor binimetinib (MEK162) in patients with advanced BRAF-mutant melanoma,” which discussed research conducted on treatment options for certain cases of melanoma.
Melanoma is a prevalent form of skin cancer and as such the research of the disease is critical to the success of the treatment of melanoma sufferers.
In 2014, about 76,100 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society. Nearly 10,000 people are expected to die of melanoma in the U.S. this year.
The Society for Melanoma Research (SMR) is a diverse organization of scientific and medical investigators devoted to alleviating the suffering of people with melanoma, according to the SMR website. The congress will be held from November 13 to November 16, 2014.
