Local Cape Woman Heading to State Beauty Pageant

Ms. Southwest Florida Woman United States, Megan Washington, will be competing in the Ms. Florida Woman United States Pageant on Sunday, May 1st in Flagler Beach.

Megan Washington of Cape Coral has been selected as Ms. Southwest Florida United States 2016 and will compete for the title of Ms. Florida Woman United States on Sunday, May 1st at the Flagler Auditorium in Flagler Beach.

Washington holds a master's degree from the University of Florida and specializes in social media and digital marketing. In 2015, Washington established Queen Bee Social where she consults with individuals and businesses to develop specialized digital marketing plans to fit their audience and needs. In addition, Washington also works for a local non-profit organization that has a strong tradition in the Southwest Florida community. "I love working with the Edison Festival of Light! I have been fortunate to be part of the history for four go-arounds now. There's just something really special about being able to provide free events for everyone in our area to attend! Aside from the Grand Parade, my favorite event is our STEM-based event that allows kids and their families to explore exhibits and careers in the field when they may not have the opportunity to otherwise."

I am so excited and honored to represent Southwest Florida at the state competition. I hope I am able to make our area proud and bring the crown back home!

Should Washington be crowned Ms. Florida Woman United States on May 1st, she plans to spend her year of service promoting Go Red For Women. "When I was twenty-one, I was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia which I needed surgery to correct. It was the scariest time in my life because you have one heart so it is so important that it functions correctly. I do not want anyone else to go through what I did in hearing the news they have something wrong with their heart. The crazy thing is, we have the odds on our side. If we are eating healthy and moving around, we are able to prevent heart disease by 80%!"
