LLQP to Be Harmonized Across Canada
Online, June 5, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The LLQP examination that authorizes insurance agents to deal with insurance and related products is all set to undergo a change in the coming days. The programme that was created in the latter part of the 90s and implemented in the early 2000s, will now be uniform across Canada. This was revealed by Ron Fullan, chairman, CISRO (Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organization at a recent event. The change will witness compulsory course study in Quebec and an open book modular system throughout the country. The new LLQP with the changes will see the light of the day only in September 2015.
It is a standard practice all over Canada for people wishing to acquire LLQP to take a study course. They would have to be certified as prepared for the LLQP exam before they actullay appeared for it in their home province. However, this is not mandatory in Quebec, where people could simply appear for the exam. "With the harmonization, Quebec is now going to come in line with that and they are going to make the course mandatory prior to writing the exam," said Mr. Fullan. In addition to this, there will be some significant changes like:
1. The duration of the exam will now follow the Quebec standards of five hours rather than four hours that was prevalent across the entire country.
2. The open book approach which was practised in Quebec alone will now be adopted throughout Canada.
3. The course material will be re-designed with some additional curriculum keeping in mind the current practices of the industry.
CISRO is expected to take the lead in developing new course material matter along with help from course experts from Quebec. This will also bring in uniformity in course material which would differ from province to province as it was developed by course providers. CISRO will also conduct workshops for insurance brokers across Canada to understand entry level issues faced by them and address them in the new LLQP format.
