LiveWire Entertainment Rapper MIZZ Releases Debut Album and Single "Walk In My Shoes"
Online, July 19, 2013 (Newswire.com) - There's no shortage of songs about love lost, even in hip hop. Few, however, offer the sentiment from MIZZ's perspective. Antonia "MIZZ" Mosby is actually rather unique.
Perhaps what will distinguish the Kansas City native initially is that she is female and openly gay in an industry often accused of being misogynistic, male-dominated, and homophobic. Once her debut album is released, though, she will be distinguished by pure artistry and lyrical skills.
In the title track, "Walk in My Shoes, off of her upcoming debut album of the same name MIZZ details the heartache of love lost, through a letter to an ex. The pain is compounded by the fact the relationship is sabotaged by someone unwilling to accept her relationship with a woman. This is not your usual break-up record. MIZZ is joined on the track by singer Leilani Riley who she first discovered in her role as MIZZ's backup dancer.
'I knew I wanted to do something different and in a conversation with this person they were saying I was strong and I never cry about anything. That's where the chorus came from," MIZZ says of the song's inspiration.
Another unique angle is how heavily religion and Christian beliefs factor into this non-Gospel, hip hop song. In one powerful song lyric MIZZ addresses the misconception by others that the willingness to be with a man could save her religious salvation. "I was crying and praying at the same time I was writing." MIZZ says.
"Walk in My Shoes" is MIZZ's first album, but she's not new to the rap game, having opened for artists including Sean Paul (of Young Bloodz), Huey, Shawna (Of DTP), and Tech Nine. MIZZ cites rapper Da Brat as one of her musical influences. Like Da Brat, MIZZ's flow is hardcore enough to battle amongst the guys while still offering a feminine perspective. MIZZ will be following up "Walk in My Shoes" with her dance track "Giggin."
