Light steel provides a revolutionary building solution

Introduced to South Africa in 2006, light steel frame building is one of the steel and building industries’ most exciting developments. Offering unrivalled quality, cost-efficiency and speed of erection for low-rise residential and non-residential buildings, it is truly a revolutionary material.

Based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, MOCO Light Steel Framing has jumped into this revolution with both feet, supplying light steel framing to building sites and contractors around the country.

Light steel frame building consists of structural wall frames and roof trusses, manufactured from cold-formed light gauge galvanised steel sections.

So what makes light steel frame such an exceptional product? MOCO has identified a number of advantages which should convince you that this is the way of the future:

-       Construction is 30% - 50% quicker than conventional building methods, allowing for more operational time. Frame design, production and construction times are all reduced, resulting in reduced costs.

-       Precise 3D modelling leads to accurately designed parts that are manufactured to fit together perfectly during assembly.

-       There are very few to no settlement cracks on the structure as the steel is airtight.

-       The internal walls are not load bearing, allowing for alterations to be done internally with ease.

-       The walls of a light steel frame building are 90% lighter than that of a double skin plastered brick wall. This means that less concrete is needed in the foundations of a building.

-       Light steel frame has the highest weight-to-strength ratio of any building material.

-       You can gain up to 4% more floor space compared to double skin brick walls.

-       The raw material requirements for a light steel frame building are significantly less than that of a conventional building constructed with timber, bricks or concrete, resulting in a lower carbon footprint.

-       Overall energy saving is achieved by having insulated walls and roofs.

-       No “chasing” for services is needed as there are pre-manufactured “service holes” in the wall cavity making installation quick and easy.

MOCO Light Steel Framing offers a minimum 50 year warranty on the steel used. The company works in conjunction with the Southern African Light Steel Frame Building Association (SASFA) to ensure that the best quality steel is used and that structures comply with SABS regulations.

Clients all across South Africa and abroad have approached MOCO with drawings by engineers and architects of their construction plans. These plans are then redrawn with specialised software, before the structures are expertly constructed with the assistance of a state-of-the-art FRAMECAD machine. An engineer oversees all light steel frame construction projects and signs off on the quality in order to be HBRC, CIDB & SABS approved.

The frames can be delivered anywhere across the country, and a list of local certified installers can be provided if need be.
