Legend of the Seeker Fans Organize Fall 2010 Blitz to Ask for Cancelled Show's Return

A new round of fan-organized activities on behalf of Legend of the Seeker is stimulating renewed discussion of the show and its prospects for a return to production.

Seattle, WA - Separate groups of fans of Legend of the Seeker are moving forward with new plans to raise visibility and support for the cancelled television series. Recent activities include raising $3000.00 for an advertisement in The Hollywood Reporter and organizing a multi-day show of support for the show at the Dragon*Con convention, which will be held in Atlanta, GA over the Labor Day Weekend.

Science fiction fans attending the upcoming Dragon*Con convention are invited to check out the Legend of the Seeker fan activities being organized by TheSeekerCast.com and other fan groups. Up to 500 poster tear-sheets promoting the show will be given out at the convention, as well as other promotional items designed and paid for by the fans. SaveOurSeeker.com, which has coordinated advertising efforts for the fan campaign to bring about a third season of production, has contributed promotional materials to the convention-attending fans.

Fan site HerBlueEyes.com announced a Kahlan Amnell photo contest for Dragon*Con attendees. The best picture taken of the character from Legend of the Seeker will be awarded a set of season 2 DvDs.

Convention activities have been proposed and coordinated through the LegendoftheSeeker.org fan forums' SaveOurSeeker section. Advice on what fans can do to promote the show at conventions, as well as tips on where to find upcoming science fiction conventions, are offered in the forum's Convention Circuit discussion. Legend of the Seeker fans have already distributed hundreds of posters and other promotional materials at this year's Comic Con in San Diego.

Legend of the Seeker fans attending college this fall will be organizing campus activities including distributing "Save Our Seeker" flyers, Legend of the Seeker viewing parties, and letter writing campaigns. The letter writing campaigns have been coordinated by a group of fans on LiveJournal under the "Journey Book Campaign" slogan. See http://community.livejournal.com/legendofseeker/ for weekly updates on names and addresses for where fans can write to ask networks to pick up the show.

The SaveOurSeeker.com Website reports that $26,000.00 has been raised so far this year for purchasing advertising, printing promotional materials, and giving out DvD sets. Some DvD collections have been donated to libraries. Terry Goodkind has autographed many DvD sets as part of the promotional effort.

Legend of the Seeker was produced for two seasons by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Pacific Renaissance Pictures. The show was distributed in syndication by ABC Studios. Average weekly audiences in the U.S. markets reached 2.5 million viewers until the Tribune Station Group dropped its support for the show in March 2010. Weekly audience counts dropped to about 1.7 million in the wake of Tribune's defection. ABC's efforts to find a new distributor for the show and the company has apparently terminated its own involvement in the production.

Undeterred by these events, fans of Legend of the Seeker have vowed to continue publicizing the show and building DvD sales for it in an effort to build a business case for a new production/distribution arrangement to be made.

Legend of the Seeker is based on the Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth novels. Save Our Seeker and Save The Seeker are fan-created campaign slogans. Although Terry Goodkind has expressed encouragement to the fans, the Save Our Seeker and Save The Seeker fan initiatives do not represent Pacific Renaissance Pictures, ABC Studios, or Terry Goodkind. Operation LOTS More is a pro bono publicity campaign organized by Xenite.Org Publicity. The campaign does not directly represent any Legend of the Seeker fans, Dragon*Con, Terry Goodkind, ABC Studios, or Pacific Renaissance Pictures.
