TAMPA, Fla., April 16, 2020 (Newswire.com) - The team at LawnStar HQ must have somewhat of a sweet tooth. Yesterday, they announced the completion of a successful transition away from using EDTA and other traditional chelating agents, across their entire liquid plant nutrition line.
“This marks a big step forward in our mission to make lawn care more environmentally sustainable. Now, homeowners that value a lush lawn have a new alternative,” said Luke Baldacchino, President.

By utilizing sodium glucoheptonate, a premium complexing agent, LawnStar has developed a method of encapsulating micronutrients, such as iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc, and boron, in a protective shell formed from short-chain sugars. When their products are applied, this shell shields micronutrients from oxidization, and other nutrient loss factors present in soil profiles, ensuring better stability, plant uptake, and end result.
There are seven key micronutrients that are vital to turfgrass health. When optimal levels are present, lawns are typically healthy, thick, and produce a luscious, vibrant appearance.
One example of this is iron. The leading cause of iron deficiency (chlorosis) in plants is high soil alkalinity. Iron that is present in soils above the optimal pH range of between 6.0-7.0 has increasingly lower solubility and, therefore, is not introduced into leaf tissue at adequate levels. Over time, symptoms become clearly visible such as a yellow, mottled appearance, similar to nitrogen deficiency.
LawnStar Sugar Chelated Liquid Iron is stable up to 9.5pH, meaning it is suitable for even extreme levels of soil alkalinity. It works rapidly to restore green color from root to tip. In addition, LawnStar's formula is suitable for vegetable gardens, trees and shrubbery, and can even be used to kill certain weeds. Several YouTube personalities have touted the benefits of LawnStar's iron solution in videos across the platform.
One customer reported: “It was much easier to use rather than the traditional walk behind spreader. I added it to my backpack sprayer and sprayed. It was easy to see where I sprayed to get even coverage. The lawn greened up nicely. It even got rid of some moss--bonus! I will definitely continue to use LawnStar liquid products.” – Derek B.
