COVID-19 Unit Closes & Skilled Nursing Facility Reopens

Laurelhurst Village Closes COVID-19 Unit

Laurelhurst Village, an assisted living and skilled nursing community, closed its COVID-19 unit on July 13, 2020, and will return to providing skilled nursing and rehabilitation.

The unit opened April 10, 2020, as an Emergency Health Care Center (EHCC) in partnership with Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), serving 83 patients during the three-month time span. The unit closed at the end of the contract with the state, as the state no longer needs the dedicated COVID-19 space at this location.

"As a team of healthcare professionals with a mission to enhance lives, we're honored to have held this crucial role of serving those with COVID-19,” stated Maggie Hilty, Vice President of Business Development at Avamere. “It's our duty to care for others with integrity, respect, and passion, and I believe our Laurelhurst Village team lived by these core values wholly during these past few months as an Emergency Health Care Center."

The 47-bed unit at Laurelhurst Village featured all private rooms and occupied its own building on the property, providing a dedicated place for individuals with COVID-19 to transition from hospital to home or from other assisted or skilled nursing facilities.

Laurelhurst Village is undergoing deep cleaning for a few days following closure and prior to welcoming new patients and residents into the skilled nursing facility. The staff and cleaners are following rigid precautions to ensure a safe environment for patients and residents.

As part of the Avamere Family of Companies, Laurelhurst Village is following enhanced cleaning and safety protocols since the COVID-19 pandemic. These guidelines include: sanitizing all high-contact areas regularly, social distancing for residents and staff members unless direct care is required, regular COVID-19 testing of staff and patients, and daily wellness checks for team members before the start of each shift.
