LanyardStore.com: Lanyard Company Recycles All Warehouse Trash

LanyardStore.com, a lanyard manufacturing and printing factory, has established a zero waste warehouse through their recycling program, benefitting the company, employees and environment

With annual increase of waste production around the world, recycling has become a necessity. The Clean Air Council reports that only about one-tenth of all solid garbage in the United States gets recycled. However, LanyardStore.com, a lanyard printing and manufacturing company in Los Angeles, are doing things a little different. The company recycles everything they use at their facility.

Co-owner of the company, Augie Pella, says, "Recycling becomes second nature after using a recycling program. If a system is put in place to collect refuse separately, the amount of waste materials going to landfill will be reduced significantly." Nowadays, especially in commercial premises, recycling is being stimulated through the supply of containers.

Ordinarily, the LanyardStore.com's 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse would produce huge amounts of trash as a byproduct of manufacturing and printing various lanyards, personalized lanyards, school lanyards, promotional lanyards and other inexpensive types of strap products such as printed shoelaces, custom pet collars, and safety straps.

The company has placed standalone, labeled storage containers within and outside their offices for their employees. Pella says, "One of the keys to a successful recycling program is informing your employees about how the recycling system works. You must ensure that introduction of any recycling program does not consume employees' time thereby affecting the efficiency of their work."

Lanyardstore.com also contributes extra and overrun lanyards to charities, non-profit organizations, schools and other various companies through their "Million Lanyard Give" program. They also recycle ink to print the lanyards for donations.
It is apparent that the company's decision to go completely trash-free is enormous. The Clean Air Council reports that Americans use about 30 billion plastic bottles every year out of which 28 billion end up in landfills. This is a shocking statistic, considering recycling a single plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60W light bulb for up to 6 hours.

Emphasizing the benefits of recycling, Pella hopes that other companies will follow Lanyardstore.com's example. He says, "Since we went 100% trash-free, we save about $1400 annually in trash collection costs. Employees, too, get to take home an extra $100 by carting the bins to the recycling facility, which encourages them to participate in the program."
