Lake Square Mall in City of Leesburg Braces as the Weather Channel's Jim Cantore Comes to Town—2019 Hurricane Expo

On June 29, a popular meteorologist is heading to the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg, Florida, not to cover severe weather but to respond to the call of former health specialist for The Weather Channel and current day marketing director of the mall Dr. Anna Marie Chwastiak. His name is synonymous with the word Hurricane. He has seen 98 hurricanes, spends an average of 30-40 days in the field from August to mid-October covering severe storms, and come July 14, Jim Cantore will celebrate 34 years with The Weather Channel.

Cantore’s bravery over the years with the network has earned him nicknames like the “John Wayne of weather,” but he’s also a target of ire for, in a sense, bringing the bad weather. In addition to a special live interview, which will be filmed by the local government channel, Lake Front TV, the audience will have a chance to ask Jim Cantore questions. A meet and greet will follow the one-hour presentation center court of the Lake Square Mall during the 2019 Hurricane Expo. "We are excited to welcome well-known meteorologist Jim Cantore to Leesburg. This is a great opportunity to remind residents and utility customers to be ready for hurricane season and to let them know, as their utility provider, we are ready too!"

The 2019 Hurricane Expo is being held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m-2p.m. at Lake County’s only enclosed shopping center, the Lake Square Mall, which is located at 10401 US Highway 441 in Leesburg, Florida.

This free educational event is designed to inspire folks to prepare their families, their homes and their pets for weather emergencies.

Attendees will have access to free tools and information about family preparedness plans, shelters, and will have the opportunity to interact with first responders and emergency personnel. "Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about personal and family emergency preparedness, flooding dangers, recognizing weather hazards, preparing a go-kit and more," said Tommy Carpenter, Director of the Lake County Office of Emergency Management.

Lake Square Mall is also proud to announce that 200 hundred Lake County pets will receive free microchips and vaccinations thanks to The Animal League Wellness Center and LEASH, Inc. Pre-registration was required online. All 200 slots were filled in less than six hours.

The Lake Square Mall is proud to partner with the City of Leesburg, Lake County Office of Emergency Management, Alert Lake, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Home Depot, The Animal League Wellness Center of Leesburg, LEASH, Hoffmeyer Animal Rescue, A Forever Home, PetSmart, Hampton Inn, City of Leesburg’s LakeFront TV and WQBQ1410.
