The founders of Knotts Berry Farm, Walter and Cordelia Knott were hit badly by the depression in 1928. They purchased the farm a year earlier where they ran a tea-room, berry market and nursery where berry plants were sold. Walter and Rudolph Boysen (superintendent at a nearby park) developed a new strain of berry on the farm, named the boysenberry. To survive the tough times Cordelia sold jellies and jams and set up her chicken dinner restaurant.
Cordelias chicken dinners were an instant hit and by 1940 the restaurant was serving as many as four thousand dinners every Sunday. To give waiting customers something to do and to pay tribute to the spirit of his grandparents and his love of the Old West, Walter developed Ghost Town, the first of the parks themed areas. Then followed Fiesta Village; a tribute to California's early Spanish heritage.
"So if you're looking for a day of adventure, learning, excitement and great food, Knott's Berry Farm is just the ticket. We are very pleased to be able to offer Knotts Berry Farm coupons to our Perks Pass holders, just don't forget to try the boysenberry pie!" exclaimed Trevor.
