Knauf Insulation And Roofspace - Outstanding Performance
Online, February 28, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The innovative solution achieved a U-value of 0.15 W/m2K and contributed to meeting Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Located in North Yorkshire, the new low carbon housing community consisting of more than 420 homes over several phases is set to be a model for the future and has been created with sustainability, energy efficiency and the environment as the main construction focus.
Patrick Wilson from RoofSpace Solutions commented: "Derwenthorpe Village was built to meet the taxing thermal requirements of current Building Regulations, the Code for Sustainable Homes and the Lifetime Homes standards, as well as addressing the lack of affordable family housing within the area.
"Our Panelised RoofSpace I-Roof ™ System was the ideal solution for the project, which was based on a fabric first approach. Thanks to our partnership with Knauf Insulation, our RoofSpace I-Roof ™ System provided the integrity and thermal performance required to meet the project's high energy efficiency targets."
The RoofSpace I-Roof ™ System is an innovative and sustainable timber engineered, panelised roof and wall system. The system encapsulates the roof space of dwellings in order to provide habitable and cost efficient living spaces. What's more, the I-Roof System can reduce build times, provide low U-values of 0.20-0.08 W/m2K and has an A+ Code for Sustainable Homes rating.
Integral to the RoofSpace I-Roof™ System is Knauf Insulation's Earthwool insulation, which exceeded the strict performance criteria.
Patrick continued: "Using Knauf Insulation's Earthwool products within our system means that we can exceed current Building Regulations standards, enhance our customer offering and have the confidence that the system as a whole can perform to high standards at all times.
"The RoofSpace I-Roof™ system also benefits from additional environmental benefits, as all of Knauf Insulation's Earthwool products are manufactured using the revolutionary formaldehyde-free ECOSE® Technology."
Based on rapidly renewable materials instead of petro-based chemicals, ECOSE Technology is formaldehyde free and no acrylics, artificial colours, bleach or dyes are added. It is also up to 70% less energy intensive than traditional oil based binders - producing a 'super-soft' and easier to handle wool, with a natural brown colour.
