Kings Speech Helps Stammerers / Stutterers Today

Speech therapist Lionel Logue's unorthodox methods , featured in a new film starring Colin Firth, are still helping hundreds of adults and young people today, thanks to the work of a non profit making organisation in Sussex in the UK.

The King's Speech
Due for release later this year is 'The King's Speech', a major historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper. The film stars a lineup of great acting talent including Colin Firth as the queen's father King George VI and Geoffrey Rush as speech therapist Lionel Logue, who helped King George to overcome a stammer.
Speech therapist Lionel Logue's unorthodox methods, featured in the film, are still helping hundreds of adults and young people today, thanks to the work of a non profit making organisation in Sussex.
Anne Blight founded The Starfish Project over 11 years ago to help adults and young people who stammer learn a technique to control something that has been controlling them. The technique is based on the early pioneering work that Lionel Logue did with the late King. Anne worked and developed Logue's ideas to suit life today.
Stammering is suffered by an estimated 6 million adults in the UK as well as the millions more family members of the sufferers that are affected. Unfortunately the hard pressed resources of the health service can offer little help to stammerers.
Because of the Starfish Project's courses the lives of many hundreds of adults, from all round the country, have been changed, enabling them to take on what would have been impossible challenges before. For the young people, who have attended the Project, they can look forward to a much brighter future with controlled effortless speech.
Although stammering is rarely talked about or mentioned in the media, we feel that this would be an important item that would be of interest to most people.
We would be delighted to talk to you about stammering accompanied by someone who has been through the course. We of course have videos of everyone before they were taught control and most people are staggered by the amazing difference as we are sure your viewers would be.
As we are non profit making, we do not approach you as a sales pitch, but purely as an opportunity to improve public understanding and awareness of stammering and to let stammerers know that there is hope.
I do hope that you can feature this and help make the difference to people who stammer.
Many thanks
Anne Blight
